Breathing exercise

The 4-7-8 technique calms your nervous system by activating your body's relaxation response. Try it whenever anxiety spikes, before bed, or anytime you need to reset.

Ready?

Breathe in through your nose for 4 seconds. Hold for 7. Exhale slowly through your mouth for 8.

How the 4-7-8 technique works

Developed by Dr. Andrew Weil, the 4-7-8 breathing pattern acts as a natural tranquilizer for the nervous system. The extended exhale activates your parasympathetic nervous system, shifting your body from "fight or flight" to "rest and digest."

With regular practice, the calming effect becomes stronger. Many people use it for anxiety relief, falling asleep, managing anger, and reducing cravings.

4s Inhale Breathe in quietly through your nose

8s Exhale Exhale slowly through your mouth

This exercise is a general wellness tool, not a substitute for professional care. If anxiety is interfering with your daily life, therapy can help.
